
This representation is used for absolute data, meaning numbers and no percentages. This applies for populations, turnovers, number of outlets, but also to display the tons of cereals produced per county, the number of gallons of gas consumed per state, etc.
The symbols are reduced or increased in size as a function of the statistical data, keeping the proportions of the symbol. Their surface is proportional to the data. This is particularly useful since you can choose to use literally any GIF, JPEG or PNG you want. This includes logos, flags, photos, etc.

Here, you can choose the filling color of the symbol. The palette includes only two colors. One for positive data and one other for negative data.
To change the color click on the color square.
If the box With border is ticked, symbols are represented witn a chosen color border. You just have to click on the color square to modify the color.
The thickness symbol is also modifiable when the box With border is selected
In the case of an image symbol any filling and border is possible.
This dialog box defines the view parameters of the Proportional Symbol caption.
You can choose to see or not the caption in your map with the box show the caption.
If show border is selected a rectangle is drawn around the caption.
You can modify the caption title and the font.
At first the caption size is automatic. If the box Automatic size is not selected you can choose the caption size.
Number precision allows to choose the number of numeral before and after comma.
