Rule #1 : Use the right map
Make sure the identifiers of your data can match the identifiers of the map.
You can use zip code information with a county map but you can never use county information with a zip code map.
Rule #2 : Use the right view
You don’t display numerical values (the number of women) the way you display rates (the % of women among the population).
For the 1st one, use symbols, and for the 2nd, use shaded areas.
Rule #3 : Don’t overload your map
You don’t need to use the 5-digit ZCTA base map when working for the entire USA. It won’t be legible.
The 3-digit zip code base map is detailed yet clear enough for you to see and understand your data.
Once you bought the license, download MapInXL. Close Excel®™ and run installer to start the installation process. Use the activation key received by email to register MapInXL. To find out how to run MapInXL for the first time, click here to consult the tutorial.
Uninstall MapInXL like all other program. Just go to Configuration panel / Add/Remove programs and find MapInXL.
The license of MapInXL is an unlimited one without any need to renew it at any due date.
Generally, the MapInXL tab automatically appears in Microsoft®™ Excel®™ when you open it.
If this tab does not appear, go to the Excel®™ main menu, then to Excel®™ Options. Choose the "Add-in" menu and go to "Manage" > "Disabled items", then "Reach".
Tick in the box in front of MapInXL Addin, and click on "Activate".
The MapInXL tab will appear at the next start of Excel.
If your maintenance plan is still active, just contact us and we'll give you the download link to obtain a new copy. We'll also include your license number in the event it was also lost.
MapInXL only works with versions of Microsoft® Excel® 2007 and newer versions.

MapInXL already provides various maps of the USA by counties, by states and the World by continents or countries. However, the custom maps function allows you to import many more new maps, in order to enhance your MapInXL default library. These maps must be in the VXF format. We can provide a lot of VXF maps from all over the globe. Please refer to our online shop. If you need a specific map that is not available in this e-store, like, for example, the 5-digit ZCTA states, do not hesitate to contact us: we will find it or create it for you.
MapInXL does not include any geocoding function, which means that you cannot use address file to plot their data on a street view for instance.
Nevertheless, we do have internal geocoding tools, and thus can create a plot map from your files: eg. Location of your plants/customers/prospects by countries/states/counties/zip codes.

The maps delivered with or around MapInXL are restrained to administrative levels (countries, provinces, counties, zip codes). We do not have street maps, that would be too heavy.

The information about this compatibility being available on many pages of our website, we do not satisfy refund requests based on incompatibility with Excel anymore.
Indeed, MapInXL does not work on Mac, due to choices of developments.
However, it does work with Parallel Desktops if Office 2007 is installed. This way, MapInXL works in a Microsoft environment.
If you do have Parallel Desktop, do not hesitate to download the free trial version available on www.mapinxl.com.
We do have another mapping software supporting Mac though, that you can discover on www.articque.com/en/. This software, called C&D, works with Excel and text files, and can be connected to databases thanks to an ODBC pilot.
You can download the Personal free version to test its functionalities. It includes the USA by states and the world by countries, just like MapInXL.
